New Campaign Features Texas Drunk Driving Accident Victims

With the Fourth of July rapidly approaching, many people are making plans to celebrate with friends and family. Whether attending an area fireworks celebration or just relaxing at home, there will be plenty of things to do. Unfortunately, Independence Day also leads to many people drinking and driving.

It might be a quick trip back home, or just around the block to the next small party. No matter how far or short the drive, impaired motorists can greatly increase the risk of a car accident happening.

No one wants to think about what can happen if he or she is injured in a drunk driving accident. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has recently started a new ad campaign targeted at increasing awareness of the potentially tragic results of these crashes.

The "Faces of Drunk Driving" hopes to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries caused by drunk drivers. According to TxDOT, 1,000 people die each year due to alcohol-related accidents. This makes Texas one of the most dangerous states for drunk driving accidents.

The campaign currently tells the story of a man who was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by his friend. The friend was intoxicated, and he lost control. The vehicle hit a tree, passenger-side first, causing serious injuries.

The man's life prior to and after the accident is discussed. He is currently unable to walk or talk, and has undergone numerous surgeries in an effort to continue to recover from his injuries. He has incurred medical bills of over $1 million dollars, but is determined to one day walk again.

Those who have been injured due to a car accident involving an impaired driver may need a long time to treat their injuries. This can result in much frustration and expensive medical bills, but there may be options available. Knowing the choices that are available can help you make the decision that is best for your future while you recover.
