The week-long safety initiative will crack down on commercial drivers who practice unsafe and dangerous driving behaviors.

Increase in traffic fatalities puzzle experts

Fatal traffic accidents in the U.S. increased by nine percent in 2012 and experts analyzing the reports are puzzled as to what contributed to the increase after five years of fatal car accidents declining. In the first half of 2012, 16,290 people were killed in traffic accidents according to a report by the U.S. National Highway Safety Administration.

More vehicles on roadways mean that there is less of an opportunity to make moves necessary to avoid a collision.
