The veterans who were hit and injured after a train hit them during a parade in Texas have filed a lawsuit against the train and truck companies involved. The accident happened during a Veteran's Day parade when a truck carrying wounded veterans and their spouses was hit by a train as it crossed the railroad tracks.
The allegations in the lawsuit claim that the railroad company and the company that owned the truck they were riding in were negligent. The lawsuit also alleges that both companies are responsible for the four fatalities that resulted because of the accident. Four veterans were fatally injured after the truck was hit by the train.
The lawsuit is seeking a hearing to preserve the equipment used by the two companies, which includes the train's "black box" and video recordings from the truck. The "black box" and video recordings could play an important role in establishing the cause of the accident as well as who was at fault for the fatal accident.
This civil lawsuit is an example of how accident victims and their families can pursue legal action against negligent drivers. Victims injured in car accidents have the right to know what caused the accident. If negligent or illegal activities such as drunk driving contributed to the causing the accident, victims may be entitled to compensation for medical care and other damages.
Filing a lawsuit can be complicated so it is best for victims to work with a personal injury attorney. They can answer legal questions as well as explain the process of filing a lawsuit and if a trial will be necessary.
