Beloved couple killed in Texas motorcycle accident

A well-known couple from out of state was killed in a motorcycle accident earlier this month in Texas. In addition to being successful small business owners, the couple was actively involved in their community. The two were married for 40 years, had raised a son who is a successful NFL coach and enjoyed taking long trips on their motorcycle.

Unfortunately, their last ride was a fatal one. Reports indicate they were traveling on a rural Texas highway when a tractor-trailer crossed onto their side of the roadway and hit them head-on. The truck driver was uninjured. At this point, it is unclear if the truck driver will face charges for the motorcycle wreck. He was not injured in the crash, which is a common occurrence when tractor-trailers and motorcycles collide.

Many in their home community are mourning the loss of the couple. Both were described as dedicated to education and employment opportunities, giving support especially to the minority community. The husband was a counselor at a vocational for the past 19 years, helping students find educational and employment opportunities. He was also a founder of black professionals group established in 1994. Many in the region referred to him as a civil rights leader.

In addition to running the couple's successful nail salon business, the wife was vice president of an organization that works to increase literacy and offers scholarships to minority students.

There is no doubt this couple's loss is being felt throughout their family and the entire community. Sadly, one apparent error on the part of a truck driver changed the lives of many forever. All too often, motorcyclists become victims of negligent drivers. While criminal charges are sometimes pursued in court, that's not the only way a family can seek justice. An experienced attorney can help families work toward receiving the compensation to which they may be entitled.
