Texas motorcycle accident ends in critical injuries and fatality

Accidents can have life-altering consequences for everyone involved, particularly those involving motorcycles. While a motorcycle can be a fun piece of equipment to ride, the lack of protection offered by an enclosed motor vehicle leaves riders exposed and highly vulnerable in the event of a crash. This vulnerability tends to make those who ride motorcycles extremely cautious of their surroundings, but the decisions of other drivers sometimes gives these riders very little time to react. A recent motorcycle accident in Texas has, sadly, claimed the life of one man and left his wife with critical injuries.

The accident occurred near the end of February in Galveston. A husband and wife out on their motorcycle were heading down a local street when a car pulled out in front of them. Unfortunately, there was no time for them to avoid the crash. Both victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment; however, the husband succumbed to his injuries and his wife was listed in critical condition. She is currently serving as an active member of the Houston Police Department, her late husband was a retired Houston police officer.

The driver deemed responsible for this accident, an 18-year-old female, has been arrested and has been charged for the crash. Local authorities believe intoxication is a contributing factor in the accident and she has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. She is currently being held on a bond of $150,000.

Losing a loved one or suffering injuries as the result of a motorcycle accident can create significant emotional, physical and financial hardships to the victims and their family. Texas residents who have been affected by such an accident may be able to pursue civil actions against the person responsible. In this particular case, both a wrongful death claim and personal injury claim may be made against the woman believed responsible. If the driver is found liable for the accident, a Texas civil court could grant the surviving victim financial compensation for the losses endured including the loss of her husband, injuries suffered, medical and funeral expenses and her pain and suffering -- just to name a few.
