Soldier arrested for fatal accident in Texas

Highway workers undeniably have dangerous jobs. While signs are posted, speed limits reduced and harsher punishments are established, all these things unfortunately don't stop accidents involving these workers from happening. In Texas, not one but two highway workers were recently involved in a fatal accident while on the job.

According to recent police reports, two highway construction workers were killed after they were struck by a vehicle while working on Interstate 10. The driver, an 18-year-old soldier stationed at Fort Bliss, was supposedly drunk at the time of the collision. One of the workers, a 39-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene; while the other, a 54-year-old male, was transported to a hospital for treatment. Sadly, he died shortly after arriving at the medical facility.

It was not reported if the driver suffered any injuries related to the crash. He has been arrested and is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter. Bond has been set at $200,000 in his case and he is currently being held at a detention center in El Paso.

The families of both victims of this fatal accident retain the right to pursue civil actions against the individual believed to be responsible for the death of their loved ones. Each family, along with pursuing workers' compensation death benefits from the victims' employer, may be able to also file wrongful death claims against the driver. If each case is successfully litigated, a Texas civil court may award each family financial compensation for their losses, which could assist in providing for their current and future monetary needs.
