Certain road risks may contribute to a motorcycle accident

Motorcycles are the vehicle of choice for many Texas residents. They are small, can have great gas mileage and can be really fun to ride. Unfortunately, the risks involved with riding a motorcycle exposes these drivers to greater hazards and the prospect of suffering injury or death if a motorcycle accident occurs.

Looking at a few national statistics can give us a pretty good view of the dangers that motorcycle riders face. The first statistic states that, in approximately two-thirds of motorcycle accidents, the motorcyclist's right of way was violated by the other vehicle. A second statistic suggests that, when motorcycle accidents are compared to accidents involving regular passenger vehicles, motorcycle riders are far more likely to suffer fatal injuries in an accident -- 26 time more likely to be exact. Finally, the third statistic states that as other types of vehicle collisions have decreased over the years, accidents involving motorcycles have been steadily climbing.

Motorcyclists face a totally different set of problems when out on the road compared to other drivers. The biggest issue seems to be the fact that these vehicles are simply smaller and harder to see. Some other problems include the fact that relatively minor hazards -- such as potholes or debris -- can be dangerous for bikers and that alignment issues at high speeds may result in an unstable ride due to wobbling. All of these issues can be contributing factors in motorcycle accidents.

While there are a great many factors that can contribute to a motorcycle accident, if the negligence of another driver is suspected, civil compensation can be sought. Texas residents who have been injured or lost a loved one in an accident may choose to file a personal injury or wrongful death claim against the person deemed responsible for the collision. If these claims are successfully litigated, monetary compensation may be awarded for any economic losses suffered in the crash and any other damages deemed recoverable under Texas laws.
