Poor truck maintenance can lead to serious accidents

Trucking companies are regulated by strict federal guidelines in order to protect business owners, employees and the general public. If trucking companies fail to comply with these guidelines, not only do owners run the risk of facing legal complaints, but those who share the road with these massive trucks, whether in Texas or elsewhere, could be injured -- or worse. One important component of truck safety is properly maintaining the vehicle, as poor truck maintenance could lead to serious accidents.

Anyone who owns an automobile knows that failing to maintain the vehicle can result in significant problems. These problems, if not properly addressed, affect the safety of the driver, passengers and all others on the road with that vehicle. While owners of normal passenger cars are not required to keep maintenance records, those in the trucking industry are supposed to record all work done on a truck and retain all maintenance records for at least a year or six months if the vehicle is removed from their fleet.

Maintenance, inspections and repairs are to be completed on a regular basis. In fact, federal guidelines specify that all parts of these trucks are to be in safe working condition at all times. If a problem occurs, that problem is to be addressed in a timely manner.

When truck accidents happen, it is not uncommon for the trucking company's records to be reviewed. If poor truck maintenance is found to have contributed to an accident, the trucking company could be held liable for any damages sustained. Those in Texas who have been injured or lost a loved one in an accident with a commercial vehicle can pursue legal remedies to seek compensation for both the economic and non-economic losses they have suffered as a result.
