Serious injury, including road rash, common in motorcycle crashes

Accidents involving motorcycles occur far more frequently than they should. Numerous Texas residents, and others across the country, have been negatively affected by these kinds of collisions. Sadly, many motorcycle riders are killed in accidents with other motor vehicles. Those riders who do survive, generally, experience significant injuries -- such as severe road rash and head trauma -- as a result.

When it comes to road rash, most people do not consider this to be a severe injury. The damage suffered is usually thought to be a small abrasion, nothing serious. However, it is possible to suffer greatly from this type of injury. Speed and the force of impact in which a motorcycle rider hits the road can have a significant impact on the severity of this type of injury. If not properly treated, infection may set in, only causing further medical issues.

Other injuries commonly seen with motorcycle accidents include fractures and concussions. Though painful, fractures typically heal over time; however, depending on the severity of the break or breaks, mobility can be affected significantly. Some individuals may be left with disabling pain, paralysis and a number of other health issues as a result. Concussions and/or more extreme brain injuries, which are often seen in motorcycle collisions, can lead to temporary or even permanent disability. The physical and psychological affects of a head injury are wide-ranging and unique to every individual and situation.

Whether dealing with road rash or any other serious injury resulting from a motorcycle accident, recovery can be long and painful. Texas residents who have been injured in such an incident may seek compensation for any losses experienced as a result. These losses may be economic, including medical expenses, lost wages and other monetary damages, or non-economic -- such as compensation for pain and suffering and mental anguish. If negligence is believed to have contributed to a motorcycle accident, those injured may file civil claims against the individual deemed responsible, which, if successfully managed, may result much needed financial relief.
