Police in Texas are currently investigating a crash that claimed the life of a 71-year-old man. This car accident reportedly occurred Dec. 30, in Abilene. Several vehicles were involved in the wreck.
According to authorities, a pickup truck supposedly attempted a U-turn when it was struck by a sedan that was coming from the opposite direction. The car was then hit by a third vehicle -- another pickup. The elderly gentleman who passed away as a result of this collision was the driver of the second vehicle. A passenger in his car suffered injuries and was transported to a local medical facility. The extent of this individual's injuries is unknown.
Authorities do not believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in this incident; however, weather may have been. It is believed that dense fog was in the area at the time of the crash. Drivers are responsible for taking appropriate measures when driving is such conditions. At this time, police have not stated if any charges are pending in this case.
The untimely death of a loved one in a car accident is, understandably, difficult for surviving family members. For this man's family and for the surviving victim, the damages suffered may be hard to bear alone. According to the state of Texas, these individuals may have legal recourse. Wrongful death, survival actions and personal injury claims may be filed against the person believed responsible for this tragic incident. If any form of negligence is discovered to have contributed to this wreck, those claims that are successfully litigated may be granted monetary judgments.
