Fatal accident on Texas campus claims a life

A wreck involving a car and a pedestrian often results in catastrophic consequences. For drivers, it is, unfortunately, easy to miss the small profiles of people in the crosswalk. This is especially true late at night, when drivers may be under the influence. In a recent fatal accident on the University of Houston campus in Texas, a driver hit two people who were walking along the roadway

According to the police, a 23-year-old student was speeding on a street near campus around midnight. He attempted to pass a car that was trying to make a turn, but he was not able to fully miss the vehicle. When he crossed into the opposing lane in order to get around the car, he clipped its front. He subsequently struck two pedestrians in the crosswalk with his large pickup truck.

The man and woman were coming home from a sorority function. Both were taken to a local hospital with significant injuries. Tragically, the male who was struck passed away from his injuries; the female remains at the medical center in stable condition.

Victims and/or their loved ones who are faced with similar situations can rightfully pursue wrongful death lawsuits against the negligent drivers, seeking reimbursement for monetary damages caused by this type of fatal accident. Acts such as speeding, driving under the influence, driving while distracted, and failing to yield or stop could be considered negligent or reckless behavior, depending on the situation. If a driver is found to have engaged in any of these behaviors, this information could be used to establish liability in a Texas civil court.
