No comfort found in recent statistics about distracted drivers

There have been many articles written about the dangers of distracted driving. Unfortunately, this danger does not seem to be sinking in to most of the drivers on the road. Texas readers may be interested in recent statistics seem to show that fighting distracted drivers has become increasingly more difficult, and the number of accidents caused by them continue to rise.

In a recent article, police units from different states disclose the unique ways that they try to catch drivers who are texting or using their phones illegally while driving. Some police forces troll highways in 18-wheelers in order to see texting drivers from above, some ride through slow traffic on bicycles and others even go so far as to disguise officers as homeless men who watch out for offenders while radioing ahead to other officers. Despite these creative ways to catch offending drivers, authorities feel as though they are fighting a losing battle.

Accidents and deaths related to distracted driving continue to grow every year. One major issue is that drivers have become sneakier, and they have found ways to conceal their cell phone-based activities from authorities while driving. Also, crashes involving distracted drivers are typically underreported because officers conducting investigations are often forced to only rely upon what drivers tell them.

Distracted drivers are increasingly the cause of serious and, at times, fatal accidents in the United States. While police are trying to crack down on offenders, accident victims in Texas may be faced with medical bills and other expenses due to the negligence of other drivers on the road. In these cases, victims may choose to seek the counsel of a personal injury attorney to discuss the legal options they have to seek reparations from their injuries.
