The new year often inspires people to reflect on the year past and to make resolutions to improve their lives in one aspect or another. Unfortunately, not everyone is granted another year when tragedy strikes. One Texas family is now mourning the loss of a loved one after a fatal accident claimed the life of one woman and left another person injured.
Police reports indicated that the accident occurred around 10:30 in the evening on New Year's night. A woman in her mid-50s was driving and traveling along a local road with a passenger in her car. According to the report, the driver struck two cows that were standing in the road at the time.
Emergency responders stated that the driver perished from her injuries. The passenger in her vehicle was also injured and transported to a local medical facility. Purportedly, earlier that evening, police had received a report of cattle that were unattended in the road.
This fatal accident has now left one family without a beloved member, and another family is left to try and recover physically and possibly financially. Though the authorities were purportedly informed that the cows were in the road and may possibly pose a threat to travelers -- especially at night -- the animals were still in the way when the victim and her passenger headed down that Texas road that night. Additionally, it is not known if the owner of the cattle was aware that they were unattended and whether there was a breach in any fences that had not been repaired adequately. Surviving family members of the victim and the other passenger may decide to consult with a personal injury attorney to determine whether a third party can be held accountable for this tragic -- yet possibly preventable-- accident. If so, a wrongful death and a personal injury suit, respectively, could possibly help them recover from some of the monetary damages they have sustained.
