Police state driver was intoxicated in fatal bicycle accident

Riding a bike can be a great way to get exercise as well as a cost effective mode of transportation for many. However, it can also be dangerous when one has to ride on city streets as not every driver pays close attention to cyclists. This can lead to serious collisions. One Texas woman was a victim of a fatal bicycle accident late last year.

While the accident occurred the day before Thanksgiving last year, police recently announced that the driver of the vehicle involved was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. According to the authorities, the victim, a 21-year-old woman, was biking toward her home after completing her shift at a local restaurant. As she was turning from one road onto another at an intersection, a vehicle hit her.

The driver was purportedly operating his car in an intoxicated state. Tests administered by officials reportedly registered his blood alcohol content at close to twice the legal limit for intoxication. His level was recorded at 0.13 while the legal limit is 0.08. The woman was taken for medical care; however, her injuries proved to be too severe.

Texas authorities have not yet filed charges in this fatal bicycle accident; however, the official investigation report has been submitted to the district attorney's office. Regardless of whether charges are filed against this driver, the family of the victim have been left to cope with the loss of their loved one along with the resulting medical bills and final expenses. They may consider the merits of filing a wrongful death civil suit against the driver responsible for this tragic accident as a way of recouping some of the monetary damages they have sustained.
