Man who purposely caused motorcycle accident sentenced to prison

A Texas judge recently sentenced a 68-year-old man to serve a 15-year prison sentence after a jury convicted him for causing a serious wreck. The motorcycle accident occurred in October 2015. The trial lasted two days, and the jury convicted him on two counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous object.

The incident was all caught on a camera by another biker who was traveling behind the targeted motorcyclists. The convicted man was driving his passenger car along the highway when a pair on a motorcycle made an attempt to pass his car. The video captured the moment when the driver swung his car out of its lane in order to swerve into the two-wheeled vehicle.

The impact caused the driver of the motorcycle to lose control. Both he and his female companion were thrown off the bike. They rolled across the roadway and into the grassy area off of the shoulder of the road. The female rider suffered serious road rash injuries that required treatment in the critical care department of the hospital. Her boyfriend also suffered injuries though there were no other details included in the recent report.

After the man was confronted about causing the motorcycle accident, he purportedly remarked several times that he did not care. He later stated to Texas officials that he did not purposely cause the collision but was instead reacting to a bite from a spider at that moment. The two injured victims may consider filing a personal injury lawsuit against the driver who caused their accident. Doing so may allow them to collect compensation for the monetary losses they likely sustained from numerous medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages and other associated expenses.
