Motorcycle accident combined with spinal cord injury changes life

It is no secret that motorcyclists face a much greater risk of physical injury whenever there is a serious accident. One potentially serious consequence is a spinal cord injury. In Texas and elsewhere, many accident victims struggle to handle the challenges these injuries bring.

Depending on the location and the extent of the injury, different organs and functions may be compromised. While kidneys and the workings of the upper digestive system will continue to function, the ability to control both the bladder and the bowels may be negatively impacted. In addition, circulation and the ability to feel may be adversely impacted as well.

The respiratory system can also be seriously affected. When the lungs cannot operate properly, there's a greater risk of pulmonary disease and pneumonia. Because a victim is no longer able to bear weight and move in a manner that promotes better health, the muscular system is also impacted.

Some other concerns include weight loss or gain, the possibility of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes or battling problems such as depression. Being involved in a serious Texas crash that results in a victim suffering a lifelong spinal cord injury is obviously devastating. Along with the physical pain and suffering, the monetary damages incurred are often astronomical, including lost wages, medical expenses and the ongoing costs that accompany these types of injuries. In cases where the injuries were the fault of another party, the victim may be entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit in an effort to recoup the financial losses sustained.
