Fatal accident on Texas highway results in two deaths

Most Texas drivers have been involved in a vehicle accident at some point in their lives. Accidents can happen for various reasons: driver distraction, impairment or simply poor judgment. Some accidents can even happen due to complications from a medical condition. This may be the case for a man accused of causing a fatal accident on a Houston highway.

The accident happened on a recent Wednesday when a pickup truck reportedly veered across the highway median and into oncoming traffic. The 54-year-old truck driver hit four other vehicles, injuring several people and killing two people, a man and a woman. According to police, the driver showed no signs of intoxication at the time of the crash. Although he is cooperating fully in the investigation, he reportedly claims to not remember anything about the time prior to the crash, and authorities confirm he has a history of seizures.

This story took a strange turn, however, when it was revealed that the driver has a criminal history as well. According to authorities, one incident two years ago involved the driver assaulting a woman in a cemetery, resulting in charges of aggravated kidnapping and assault. Police cite another incident in which a man matching the driver's description acted inappropriately toward a woman in a different local cemetery. Reportedly, the driver was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the deadly crash.

Although the truck driver has not been criminally charged in this fatal accident, he may still have exhibited negligent behavior that caused the crash, and these grieving families have the right to pursue litigation in Texas civil court. The surviving family members may wish to consult with an experienced personal injury lawyer to review the case details. If successfully litigated, such a case could help compensate for the unexpected expenses that occur at times of unexpected tragedy.
