Texas teens' prank results in tragic fatal accident

Many Texas residents can probably remember a time in their youth in which they participated in a prank with friends. Such incidents can provide fun moments that develop into amusing anecdotes later in life. However, this is not always the case, and for a young Texas teen, a recent prank resulted in a fatal accident, a murder charge and likely a tragic memory that will stay with him the rest of his life.

The incident began on a recent Tuesday when the 14-year-old, along with two other teens, began throwing eggs at passing vehicles. One of the victims, who according to police had a semi-automatic weapon, began chasing the teens. The 14-year-old, who was operating a vehicle under the legal driving age, collided with another car when he ran a red light during the chase. The 45-year-old female driver of the other car was killed in the crash.

Police have since found the man who allegedly chased the teens and will interview him. The teen driver, who suffered a broken ankle in the crash, has been charged with murder. He is currently being held at a county juvenile detention center.

Sadly, what began as a silly prank ultimately left a Texas family grieving the loss of a loved one and a teenage boy enduring a horrific situation that will significantly affect his future. Although he is responsible for his poor choice of action, it appears he had access to a vehicle that belonged to someone else, perhaps a parent. This deceased woman's family may consider consulting with an experienced personal injury attorney to discuss options for legal recourse against the vehicle owner, especially if it appears that his or her negligent behavior contributed to this tragedy. A fatal accident such as this one is emotionally devastating and may also result in unexpected financial hardships. Although nothing can erase terrible events, a successfully litigated civil lawsuit may help the surviving family recoup such losses.
