Most drivers have heard and fully understand the continual warnings in the media about the importance of refraining from drugs or alcohol before operating a motor vehicle of any kind. These people take this safety measure very seriously and will drive responsibly. Unfortunately, however, not all drivers do so, such as a Texas man who was recently involved in a car accident and now faces very serious charges.
The accident happened on a Sunday evening when a 20-year-old man in a pickup truck traveling north collided with a westbound car at an intersection in Lubbock. Both the driver and a passenger of the car were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The young man driving the pickup truck suffered minor injuries.
The following morning, Lubbock police confirmed that the 19-year-old driver of the car had been pronounced dead at the hospital. Her passenger remains in hospital in stable condition. The young man driving the pickup truck is currently in custody and has been charged with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault and possession of marijuana. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
It appears this man, at least in this particular instance, ignored all warnings he may have ever heard about the dangers of driving drunk, and he is now paying the price. Sadly, his error in judgment cost a woman her life and likely brought pain and suffering, physically, emotionally and even financially, to the other occupant of the car, as well as both victims' families. The survivors may consider contacting a Texas personal injury lawyer to discuss options for legal recourse, aside from the criminal charges that have already been filed against this driver. A successfully litigated civil lawsuit could help mitigate unexpected expenses that tend to follow a car accident such as this one.
