9-year-old girl victim in fatal accident involving drag racing

Likely, most Texas drivers follow rules that help keep them and others around them safe. They wear their seat belts, obey the traffic rules, avoid driving while impaired and maintain a safe speed. However, for some reason unknown to most people, some drivers enjoy drag racing. This practice can and often does put not only the drivers involved, but also nearby pedestrians and other drivers in a dangerous position. In fact, recently, a 9-year-old girl was killed and two other people were seriously injured in a fatal accident involving drag racing.

The crash happened in Dallas on a Friday evening. According to police, three vehicles were racing when one of them collided with the car in which the children were passengers. The vehicle that was hit carried four people, including two children in the back seat.

The 9-year-old girl was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Reportedly, another child who was in the back seat came out of the incident in critical condition, and a front-seat passenger also suffered from critical injuries. Fortunately, the driver of the car is in good condition. The driver of the vehicle that caused the collision required medical care. Upon his release from hospital, he was taken into custody, as well as the other two drivers, who had initially fled the scene.

Although authorities have not yet filed charges in this case, the fact remains that a young girl had her life cut short and two other victims were critically injured simply because three people made the reckless decision to ignore safe practices while operating their vehicles. The victims' families are now not only suffering emotional distress from this horrific fatal accident, but are likely also encountering many unexpected financial hurdles. Sometimes, people who find themselves in such a position choose to pursue a civil lawsuit to try to recoup some of those monetary losses. A Texas personal injury lawyer can review the case details and determine if such action is viable.
