Woman charged in fatal hit-and-run car accident

When a driver is behind the wheel, he or she has an enormous responsibility to not only avoid driving while impaired, but also to obey all road signs. If an accident does happen, the people involved are expected to remain at the scene. While most Texas drivers already know and follow all of these rules, in a recent car accident, one woman did not follow any of them.

The accident happened on a Saturday evening. A 29-year-old woman was driving her pickup truck east on a Houston street and ran through a stop sign, crashing into a northbound vehicle crossing through the intersection. The driver of the other vehicle, unfortunately, did not survive. The woman, as well as a male passenger in her truck, then fled the scene.

Reportedly, police found the woman shortly after the collision walking down a street. Although authorities questioned the man with her, he was released. However, she has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid in an accident involving death. Combined bond has been set at $60,000. Apparently, during questioning, she admitted to police that she had consumed four 12-ounce beers prior to the crash, and she claimed she left the scene partly due to a previous collision in which her wife was killed and no one stopped to help.

Likely, most Texas residents would find this woman's behavior difficult to understand, and when a car accident leads to the death of someone who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, the victim's surviving family members are often left seeking answers. Many people in this position choose to consult an experienced personal injury attorney. He or she can review individual case details and discuss the possibility of pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit.
