Recent Texas graduate and her mother killed in fatal accident

While most drivers understand the importance of maintaining focus on the task at hand while they are behind the wheel, they are also aware of the many potential distractions drivers may encounter. In some cases, a driver whose attention veers from the road for even a second or two can cause a fatal accident, changing the lives of several people at once. This may have been what happened recently when two members of a Texas family were killed and another one was seriously injured on their way home from a family celebration.

The crash happened on a Sunday evening when a woman and man along with their son and daughter were returning to their home in Nacogdoches after they had been celebrating the daughter's recent college acceptance. They were stopped in traffic when a driver rear-ended their vehicle. Reportedly, the driver was traveling at a high speed and did not see the slowed traffic coming up ahead.

The 18-year-old soon-to-be college student died during transfer to the hospital. Her 40-year-old mother was killed on impact, and her 21-year-old brother suffered severe injuries, was admitted to intensive care and apparently will remain in the hospital for some time. Their father was also admitted to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and then released. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and the driver who rear-ended the vehicle may be facing criminal charges.

As most Texas drivers will realize, a fatal accident of this type is very difficult for one's mind to grasp. Not only are two people dead and one person critically injured, but also tragedies like this one are likely caused simply due to a moment or two of inattention on the part of a driver. If he or she had been watching the road during those few seconds, this family would have been sending their daughter off to college in a few weeks. Separate from any criminal charges filed, the remaining grieving family members may consider pursuing a wrongful death civil lawsuit against the driver believed to be responsible.
