Texas motorcycle accident passenger injured; driver faces charges

In general, cars provide a good deal of protection from the impact that is experienced in a motor vehicle accident. While these safety features do not protect all injury, they do prevent a lot. As a motorcyclist, this protection does not exist. A recent motorcycle accident in Texas shows just how serious the results of these crashes can be.

A 26-year-old man was driving his motorcycle along the southbound roadway with his 19-year-old passenger late one evening. When the driver attempted to do a wheelie, officials report, he lost control of the motorcycle. The two occupants were thrown from the Yamaha, which skid on its side before coming to a stop. The motorcycle was severely damaged and was leaking fluids.

The driver suffered abrasions and a cut on his foot in the course of the motorcycle accident. The passenger suffered abrasions on her arms and legs and was clearly in immense pain. Authorities report that the driver was driving on a suspended license, which he has been convicted of previously, and has been arrested. As the smell of alcohol was detected at the scene, officials say a DWI warrant is pending following the results of a blood test.

If the DWI test comes back positive, the motorcycle operator may face additional charges for driving under the influence. This Texas motorcycle accident resulted in the injury of two people. The passenger who suffered injury has the right to file civil claims, which may give her a sense of comfort and show other accident victims that they have the opportunity to take action for their personal injury too.
